Homemade explosives found in Florence home

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says a burglary investigation led to the discovery of several homemade explosive devices.

Deputies responded to the burglary in the 1600 block of W. 3rd Street in Florence at 10:13 a.m. on July 4, 2016.

When the deputies arrived, they found several people in the house who did not belong there.

Three people were arrested.

Daniel Winn, 34, faces multiple charges including possession of an explosive device and 1st degree burglary, theft, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, and prohibited use of a weapon. He is being held on $50,000 bond.

Kristine Fernandez, 29, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear, possession of a controlled substance and false reporting.

Kenneth Polston, 39, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear.

Bond for Fernandez and Polston was set at $1,000.

The sheriff’s office says that the explosive devices that were found in the home on July 4 were handed over to the Pueblo Metro Bomb Squad, which found the devices were not functional. It says additional explosives were found in the home on July 5, and that those explosives did pose a threat.
