Medical marijuana patients in COS rally for more growing rights

Medical marijuana patients in Colorado Springs say a city ordinance is preventing them from getting better.

They held a rally on Wednesday, demanding the right to grow as many marijuana plants as they need. They want follow their doctors’ orders, but they say with the ordinance in place they can’t.

“You’ve got patients who need more than 12 plants. They require concentrates, oils, all different things. Twelve plants doesn’t cut it, at all,” said Bridget Seritt, rally organizer.

But in Colorado Springs, 12 plants is the limit.

“My proper plant count would be between 24 and 36 plants,” said Seritt. “Our mayor has openly stated that they are getting rid of all home-grows. They’re chipping away at everyone’s right to grow.”

“Shame of Mayor Suthers, he’s forgotten people he was elected to represent so shame on him,” said Joseph Carlson.

City Council members said this protest hasn’t gone unnoticed and they are trying to find a solution. They hope to come to a compromise to allow everyone to get the medicine they need and protect neighborhoods from large marijuana grows.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 attempted to contact Mayor Suthers for a comment, but he was out of town.
