Beaver Creek fire grows to 7,000 acres
A fire that started at Beaver Creek at around noon on June 19 is now at 7,000 acres.
According to local officials, the fire is mostly located at the top of Independence Mountain. They have two local Jackson County Bulldozers, four helicopters, four strike teams of engines and 12 local and surrounding agencies helping with fire containment.
Several surrounding neighborhoods have been evacuated. Around 40 residents/cabins are currently being threatened.
Areas nearby that are closed include Big Creek Lakes Recreation area, Forest Road 6000, east of the Mount Zirkel Wilderness boundary and south of Forest Road 681, and south of Forest Road 80.
The only injury reported so far is a minor firefighter injury.
Officials are still unsure of the cause of the fire.
