Community figures out ways to fight Pueblo heroin problem

It’s a growing drug problem that people are trying to find solutions to in Pueblo.

Community members came together Tuesday night to fight the heroin epidemic in the city.

They came up with action plans for the resources they have like law enforcement, health care and treatment centers.

As we have reported, federal agents and officers said the amount of heroin cases have quadrupled in the past few years in Pueblo.

Paul Montoya said he has had family members who were addicted to heroin. He said in order to fight the addiction, there needs to be support and different activities available.

“Get these kids off of the streets and get them some treatment away from the heroin. Keep them busy in sports, academics, dance, music and various things other than drugs,” he said.

There will be another meeting in September to update the progress on the plans that have been made.
