Colorado Springs organ donor’s family honored at “National Donate Life Month” ceremony

Every year, countless lives in Southern Colorado are saved and improved through the gift of life: organ, eye and tissue donation. That’s why Penrose-St. Francis Health Services is holding a flag raising ceremony on Thursday to honor a tissue donor’s gift of life and observe April as National Donate Life Month.

The ceremony was held in collaboration with Donor Alliance, a federally designated nonprofit that facilitates organ and tissue donation in Colorado and Wyoming.

The flag raising ceremony will be conducted by Penrose-St. Francis Chaplain Theresa Gregoire. Attendees included Sheryl Marlor, whose husband Dave was a donor.

Dave’s donation impacted up to 50 lives after his death.

During National Donate Life Month, Penrose-St. Francis and Donor Alliance work together to raise awareness for organ, eye and tissue donation and its lifesaving impact.

If you’d like to become a donor, take the following steps:

– Sign Up at the Colorado Organ Donor Registry.
– Use Your Colorado Driver’s License to Show You Are an Organ Donor.
– Include Organ Donation in Your Medical Durable Power of Attorney.
