GOP delegate vying for national convention slot remains uncommitted after Wisconsin results

The Colorado Republican party’s decision to not have delegates bound to a presidential candidate is now putting our state’s 37 national delegates in the spotlight.

Rachel Blake from Colorado Springs is a state delegate who’s vying to get elected this weekend as a national delegate to go to the GOP Convention in Cleveland this July.

Blake is uncommitted to a candidate and hopes to win an unpledged delegate slot this summer.

She argues Sen. Ted Cruz’s decisive victory Tuesday night in Wisconsin won’t change her mind.

“We don’t want to be that person in the bag,” Blake said. “We want to feel like we have some sort of say and pull in the process. I think that’s where I’m at.”

Cruz will speak at the state convention in Colorado Springs Saturday afternoon, hoping to woo delegates in the fight for the nomination.

Frontrunner Donald Trump is expected to attend and give a speech, but his campaign has not confirmed the visit.

Gov. John Kasich will not be attending the event, instead Kasich will send a top level surrogate to speak on his behalf.

The GOP state convention begins at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Broadmoor World Arena.
