Once again, land swap opponents pack open house

Both sides were at it again Wednesday night over a land deal between the City of Colorado Springs and the Broadmoor.

As we’ve reported, the deal would give the city 360 acres from the Broadmoor.

But, the city would give the Broadmoor a popular recreation area called Strawberry Fields.

Most of the people who spoke at the meeting were against the deal. They worry the Broadmoor will restrict access to Strawberry Fields.

“The city is responsible to the public to figure out what we want to do with our lands before going to a private entity,” said Lara Rowell, opponent.

The city says the swap would actually give the city more access to the popular Manitou Incline and the Barr Trail.
