I-25, light rail closed over fears that Ikea sign will blow down

Ikea’s big sign was no match for Colorado’s big wind gusts Thursday.

South Metro Fire said that the sign outside Ikea’s store in Centennial had been damaged by strong wind gusts and was in danger of falling onto I-25.

The interstate was closed , as was the adjacent light rail line.

Centennial is located in the southern part of the Denver metro area.

The fire department said winds were gusting to 40 mph, creating a dangerous situation. It didn’t know when the interstate and light rail might reopen.
