After months of polls, speculation, Iowa caucuses launch Decision 2016

The presidential candidates and supporters were all over Iowa Monday giving those crucial last-minute pitches to undecided caucus-goers.

The polls on the Democratic side show a dead-heat between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. Experts say the winner will be decided by turnout.

“Somewhere between 120,000 people, Hillary Clinton is likely to win because she has the traditional caucus0goer behind her,” ABC News Political Commentator Cokie Roberts said. “Bernie Sanders has a lot of his supporters are first-time caucus-goers, but he has them well organized and they’re excited.”

Donald Trump looks to close the deal on the Republican side. Trump leads the final polls by several points over Ted Cruz.

Colorado College professor Bob Loevy believes the Iowa results will have an effect on the Colorado caucus March 1.

“The biggest effect is long before the Colorado voting begins, candidates will have been eliminated that Colorado voters might want to vote for.

Loevy says Iowa’s lead-off position is not representative of the country.

“It’s basically a white state with very few minorities. It’s also a very rural state,” Loevy said. “Most Americans live in urban cities.”

Iowa has held the first position in the primary process since 1972.
