Fort Carson fire burns 1,500 acres

A wind-fueled grass fire scorched 1,500 acres on Fort Carson Friday.

A Mountain Post spokesperson said the fire was 80% contained early Friday afternoon, but the smoke plume picked up again later in the day.

Smoke from the fire is visible from much of Colorado Springs as well as parts of Pueblo and Fremont Counties.

Fort Carson says no structures are threatened.

Grass fires are a common side effect of live fire training at Fort Carson. There have been several of them this month.

Firefighters from El Paso County Wildland Fire, Fountain, Security and Hanover assisted with this fire.

Hot spots will be monitored by Fort Carson.
