North Texan, 62, sentenced to life in prison for 10th DWI

A 62-year-old North Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for his 10th drunken driving conviction.

Ivy Ray Eberhardt of Weatherford was sentenced Wednesday by a judge in Weatherford. Eberhardt will be eligible for parole after serving 15 years behind bars.

Investigators say the case involved a 2014 DWI stop in Parker County in which Eberhardt’s blood alcohol level was almost four times the legal limit for driving.

Prosecutors say Eberhardt, while free on bond in that case, cut off an electronic ankle monitor and fled to Colorado, where he was again arrested for drunken driving.

Records show Eberhardt has had a dozen DWI arrests.

Weatherford is 25 miles west of Fort Worth.
