Grass fire near I-25 and S. Academy caused by ‘ordnance malfunction’

The Stratmoor Hills Fire Department says that a grass fire near I-25 and S. Academy Boulevard was caused by an ordnance malfunction at the shooting range next to Pikes Peak Community College.

The fire department says the fire is knocked down, but that it was difficult to get to because of muddy conditions.

The fire burned south of Academy Boulevard, west of I-25 and east of the Pikes Peak Community College Campus.

Curiosity slowing caused delays on S. Academy Boulevard.

This is the second grass fire south of Colorado Springs today. The other fire burned on Post west of I-25 and Highway 16 (Mesa Ridge Parkway.) That fire was caused by training at Fort Carson.
