Many tackling New Year’s resolution to stay fit

Many people in southern Colorado are beginning the first full week of 2016 at the gym, tackling their new Year’s Resolution to lose weight or stay fit.

At Accolade Fitness in Colorado Springs, gym regulars say they’re used to the bigger crowds around this time of year.

“(There are) lot of new faces, they’ve done their new year’s resolution. They take over the machines, so if you don’t get here early enough, you don’t get your machine, and I’m very territorial about my machine,” Philomena Lange said. But she said, it’s okay. “It shows people are conscious about health and they want to stay fit.”

Jessac Baird joined the gym just two weeks ago.

“I made a lot of excuses in the past, but now that I’ve started, I want to stick with it,” he said.

Others have some advice.

“When you first start to work out, it’s very hard,” Lange said. “You get very achy and all that, but not too bad. It goes away, and you try to do a little more every month.”
