No charges in texting scandal

arrive. i’ll show you what to expect and how the weather may impact your weekend plans coming up. after a month-long investigation, no criminal charges will come from the sexting investigation in canon city. three cell phones were confiscated – containing hundreds of nude photos. krdo newschannel 13’s greg miller has been following the case, he’s live tonight with reaction. greg, some parents were surprised. surprised – especially when you remember the strong reaction the d-a and canon city school officials had last month. from threatening felonies, to football cancellations, some wonder why alleged teens involved, are getting off with a warning. sot: being a parent, i just wanted to see what the consequences were. if it was going to be dealt with in a good way. that consequence – a warning. sot:what they did is against the law, and it’s not appropriate. we will consider any ongoing possession or behavior to be an aggravating circumstance. a warning parents like barbara penezic were surprised to hear. sot: i thought there should be more ways to identify more students and compel them to come and be interviewed, if they did something wrong. on three phones turned into authorities, three-hundred- fifty-on e photos of minors… most without faces. ultimately, 106 students were identified. and the pictures were allegedly being traded. sot: there was one student that mentioned the students were referring to these as pokemon cards, apparently a trading card game. greg: the superintendent says no students were ever expelled from canon city high school. he said some students were suspended but wouldn’t discuss how many. but his focus now is how to prevent something like this from happening again. superintendent: how might we support parents and communities, addressing dangers about the devices they use. some parents believe it was a pass. when you’ve broken the law, you have to be accountable. the students allegedly involved, won’t face the punishment… this time. the da’s office sent warning letters to the parents of teens mentioned as having
