Colorado casinos bringing in more money than in recent years

Colorado gambling revenues are at their highest since before the Great Recession.

The Denver Post reports that adjusted gross proceeds from July to October hit $281.7 million, up 7 percent during the same period last year. This year’s figure marks the best start to a fiscal year since 2007, when casinos reported $287.4 million in adjusted proceeds in that span.

The taxes wagers generated have also hit a high since before the recession. From July to October, $27.5 million was collected in taxes, an increase of 11 percent from the same period last year and close to $1 million more than in 2007.

Colorado Gaming Association’s executive director, Lois Rice, attributes the strong start to milder weather and more casinos having the ability to serve alcohol past 2 a.m.
