Colorado observes 25th anniversary of veterans monument

Colorado is observing the 25th anniversary of the state’s Veterans Monument near the Capitol in Denver.

Gov. John Hickenlooper and Maj. Gen. H. Michael Edwards of the state Department of Military and Veterans Affairs spoke at the ceremony Tuesday.

The monument was dedicated on Nov. 10, 1990. It honors Colorado’s war dead as well as veterans.

An inscription on the monument reads, “Dedicated by the people of Colorado in gratitude and respect for the men and women who have proudly served and sacrificed in our nation’s armed forces.”

Tuesday’s ceremony included a reading of the names of Coloradans who have died in service since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
