Hundreds honor veterans with parade in Pueblo

It’s a memorial for America’s military heroes.

The annual Veterans Day Parade brought hundreds to downtown Pueblo Saturday.

Pueblo’s Military Affairs Committee honored David Marrero and Patricia Marrero, a married couple who are Army veterans and help the veterans in Pueblo.

“We’ve always dealt with all organizations, but we were always in the background,” Patricia Marrero said.

Both of them say they didn’t get a hero’s welcome when they served in the military during the Vietnam War, but they are making sure other veterans get the welcome they never got.

“A lot of the honoring of our soldiers and our veterans and stuff are a direct result of how we were treated from Vietnam,” David Marrero said.

Hundreds of veterans were honored at the event.

While most people celebrated veterans with their cars, motorcycles or bands, Howard Hughes built a submarine in honor of the soldiers who served and died in the underwater vessel.

“It was a labor of love,” he said.

The event was hosted by our partners at the Pueblo Chieftain.
