Local woman worries about Mexican hometown

A Fountain woman born and raised in Tamazulita, Jalisco, is worried for the safety of her family and friends.

“It’s scary you know. I remember being there for huge storms but I guess it was nothing compared to this,” said Deifilia Brambila.

Brambila lived in Mexico a majority of her life and most of her memories are in Jalisco.

“When they started mentioning the towns, I was like wait I know this town,” said Brambila.

After Brambila moved to Fountain, much of her family stayed behind.

“I’ve been in touch with my niece who lives in Guadalajara. She says they were sent home and told to stay in doors. My other cousin said all of the electricity has been cut off because they don’t want any accidents,” said Brambila.

Hurricane Patricia moved closer to Mexico’s Pacific coast Friday. Several thousand residents have been put on lock down.

Facebook is the only way the family has been able to communicate.

“It’s unbelievable what’s going on. It’s just heart breaking. We wont know anything till tomorrow and its going to be in the back of my mind all day,” said Nichole Garcia, Brambila’s daughter.

In the meantime, the family is remembering the good about its hometown through photographs and waiting for the next message from its family.

“I keep looking at the phone to see if it’s blinking,” said Brambila.
