Emergency drills at Pueblo schools

Several Pueblo City schools were placed on lockdown today, but it was all just a drill.

First responders were at four schools in pueblo, including Pueblo Academy of the Arts, for unannounced drills.

They were going over how they would handle an emergency if it were to occur.

A spokesperson with district 60 says it’s also a chance for the crisis management team to test out just how prepared the schools are in the event of an emergency, like a school schooling.

“These drills also allow us to identify potential pitfalls, things like are do our door locks work,” said Dalton Sprouse, D60 communications director.

He also wanted to make sure first year teachers and teachers new to the building would be prepared for an emergency.

The district says lockdown drills like the ones performed today will be done at all of the schools throughout the year.
