Bell Game 2015 – Security efforts to keep tradition safe
A huge upset in the 2015 Bell Game – Central takes the bell back with a final score of 27-24.
Early estimates show more than 14,000 people showed up to Friday night’s game.
The game draws a lot of students with school pride and also attracts a lot of security.
While the bell is in different hands now, school pride is still strong.
“It’s just the best game of the whole year, it’s the highlight of senior year, ” said Centennial Senior Mattie Proffitt.
A feeling which both schools share.
“It’s just, it’s everything, it’s what we’ve been waiting for since we were little. I remember being a cheerleader when I was 6,” said Chevy Montoya, a Central student.
With so many people, also comes a big security force.
“Estimated at about probably 50,” said Rick Macias, the district athletic director for Pueblo City Schools. “Plenty of Pueblo police on hand, both in uniform and not in uniform. Plus our security here and our school resource officers.”
It’s a typical response, some extra eyes on the stands to make sure this tradition remains safe and fun for everyone.
“Everybody seems to just enjoy this environment and we’ve been lucky. So knock on wood, we haven’t had any problems,” Macias said.
