Police: Man who shot himself to death on I-25 identified
Colorado Springs Police have released the name of a man who died after they say he shot himself in the head on I-25 near S. Circle Dr.
He was Damian Marsh, 27, of Colorado Springs. His death has been ruled a suicide.
The crash shut down the southbound lanes on the south side of town during the Tuesday evening commute. Police said Tuesday evening the incident may have started with a kidnapping.
On Wednesday morning, police said Marsh and a woman in the car were arguing when the woman jumped out while the car was still moving. They say Marsh crashed the car into a median then pulled over, got out of the car and shot himself.
Police responded to the crash on I-25 just south of Circle Drive at around 4:30 p.m. When they arrived they found a man with a gunshot wound to the head and a woman in the vehicle.
Police believe the female in the car was a kidnapping victim. The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Special Victims unit was investigating the incident because it started in city limits. The two did know each other, police said.
“We do believe that they do know each other but the extent of the relationship we are not going to release at this time,” said Sgt. John Koch with Colorado Springs Police.
All southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down between the Circle Drive and S. Academy Boulevard exits for an hour and a half.
