Royal Gorge visitor falls to her death

Caon City Police say a woman fell about 400 feet from an observation point on the north side of the Royal Gorge.

Police say they were called to the park to search for the missing 44-year-old at 8:11 p.m. Monday.

The search was suspended Monday night because of safety concerns and resumed Tuesday morning.

The Fremont County Search and Rescue team found the woman’s body about 400 feet below the observation point on the cliff face.

Police say the fall appears to have been accidental.

The woman’s name has not been released.
