Green River Killer Moved to Colorado

(06/28/15) The Washington Department of Corrections say Gary Ridgway, known as the Green River killer, has been transferred from a prison in Washington state to a high-security prison in Colorado.

The Seattle Times reportsRidgway was transferred to the U.S. Penitentiary in Florence, Colo., on May 14. The transfer was first reported by KING-TV on Saturday.

Department of Corrections spokesman Andrew Garber did not give a reason for the transfer.

Garber says transfer decisions are made based on overall safety and security of prison operations.

Ridgway was arrested in 2002. By agreeing to cooperate in the search for the bodies of his victims and pleading guilty in 2003, he avoided the death penalty.

He pleaded guilty to his 49th murder in 2011.

This week convicted Boston marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was also tranferred to the prison. Tsarnaev was sentenced to death for his roll in the 2013 attack.
