Governor vetoes red-light camera bills

Gov. John Hickenlooper vetoed two bills that would ban red-light cameras in Colorado or that would’ve required voters to approve their use.

The legislation had bipartisan support from lawmakers but opponents of the devices say they’re revenue generators that invade people’s privacy and don’t improve traffic safety.

Hickenlooper says the cameras are important, but urged lawmakers in his veto message to introduce legislation next year to limit their use to school and construction zones and high-traffic areas.
