Wet weather prompts mold concerns in Southern Colorado

Heavy rains mean damp and humid conditions across southern Colorado; something far from common for a normally arid state.

The excess moisture and very little sunshine has lead to an influx in mold.

“Last year we got about 100 calls, this year we’ve got 500, no joke,” said Joshua Sorensen with Ameridri.

Mold is very similar to allergy symptoms in that it affects everyone differently. For some it may be a minor nuisance, while others will experience severe respiratory issues.

“There are some molds that are more of a concern than others molds, but there are some people that are more sensitive to molds than other people as well,” said Dr. John Torres.

If you do come across mold in your home, Torres said that’s a concern.

“You don’t want any mold in your house that’s the No. 1 point,” Torres Said.
