Storms wash out flood project in Fountain Creek

The recent storms are washing away a flood project in Pueblo.

The Army Corps of Engineers started work earlier this year on Fountain Creek to divert water away from the embankments on 13th Street so that crews could work on them.

Construction was halted when the recent rains started to fill Fountain Creek.

“The water rose so high, it kind of spread throughout the whole thing and it took all the trees down and the remaining vegetation. It caused a fair amount of damage,” Assistant City Manager for Stormwater Jeff Bailey said.

The city will assess the amount of damage next week.

The Army Corps plans to redo its work when the water recedes in the fall.
