Drivers concerned about highway potholes

Drivers in Southern Colorado say potholes on Interstate 25 are becoming difficult to avoid.

Smaller cars are sometimes able to maneuver around road damage, but that’s not always the case for people driving recreational vehicles and semi-trucks.

“Potholes not only can do damage to wheels, they can cause a blowout,” said James Fredman, a truck driver from Georgia. “When they blowout, it’s like a small explosion throwing the pieces off the side of the truck.”

Potholes have some drivers worried about extensive damage.

“I’ve hit them with my truck, for sure,” said Woodland Park resident Roger Campbell. “It could take out several tires on the vehicle and on the trailer if you hit a bad one.”

A driver from out of state said roads in Colorado are in better condition than other areas.

“So far, it hasn’t been too bad here,” said John Krug, a Massachusetts resident driving across the country. “We’ve gone, so far, about 12,000 miles. I would say Pennsylvania had the worst potholes.”

It might be difficult to avoid certain potholes, but some drivers believe slowing down makes a big difference.

“Take your time when driving. Do not get in a rush,” Fredman said. “Give fellow drivers and other cars plenty of extra room.”
