May storms bring hail, possible funnel cloud

Widespread thunderstorms brought flooding rain, hail and even a possible funnel cloud to southern Colorado Wednesday.

The first storms of the day popped up over the Monument area and moved across the northern half of the Colorado Springs metro area.

Another cluster of strong storms developed over Fort Carson and moved across the Fountain Valley. Numerous KRDO viewers reported seeing funnel clouds with this storm. A large amount of small hail piled up along Security Boulevard and the intersection flooding was bad enough to cause at least one car to stall at Security Blvd. and Fontaine Blvd.

Also Wednesday, a strong thunderstorm that developed southwest of Pueblo moved across the city prompting the National Weather Service to issue a flood advisory. Flood advisories were also issued for portions of Otero, Bent and Crowley Counties.

All of Wednesday’s storms packed plenty of dangerous lightning.
