Pueblo group goes against the city’s orders and has a parade

A Pueblo group didn’t have its permit to do a Cinco De Mayo parade, but that didn’t stop it from celebrating.

Hundreds of people showed up for the East Side Action Support Team’s parade Saturday morning.

The City of Pueblo gave the group its permit Friday with the condition that it would have barricades, but group member Janet Wilson said the permit was taken away because Mountain Barricades, the company it called for barricades, backed out.

Mountain Barricades said it backed out because it wouldn’t have enough time to properly put in the barricades to make the event safe.

Despite the city’s disapproval, Wilson said the parade went on without a hitch.

“We basically went though without incident. We went up 8th Street and into Bradford Park. People were cheering us on, so it was good,” she said.

Audi Vigil participated in the parade. He said he is happy the event went on because it is a tradition on the East Side.

“It’s just a gathering of community and family. You know, we are here to represent and it shows how strong of a community we have,” he said.

Pueblo police say no citations were handed issued.
