Theater shooting prosecutors say unbiased jury possible

Prosecutors in the Colorado movie theater shooting case say an unbiased jury can be seated in the community where the 2012 attack happened, despite defense claims.

In court records released Monday, prosecutors say potential jurors’ answers during jury selection so far show they “are eminently capable of being fair and impartial.” The defense wants the trial moved from Arapahoe County, saying publicity could have swayed potential jurors against James Holmes, who has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

But prosecutors say the one piece of pretrial publicity they remembered the most was a letter Holmes’ parents wrote to The Denver Post, presumably to garner sympathy for their son. Holmes’ mother also has written a book about how she’s dealt with grief since the attack, which left 12 dead and 70 injured.
