Gov. Hickenlooper media adviser suspected of DUI in Denver

Denver police say Gov. John Hickenlooper’s top media adviser has been arrested for suspicion of driving drunk.

KMGH-TV reported Thursday that an officer’s police report says 43-year-old Max Potter was stopped Wednesday night for driving with his lights off. The police report says the officer smelled alcohol on Potter’s breath and that his speech was slurred and he was stumbling.

Police say Potter refused a roadside sobriety test. He was arrested and cited with suspicion of DUI, failure to display headlamps, and failure to show proof of insurance.

Hickenlooper spokeswoman Kathy Green says they’re aware of the incident and are taking it seriously. She says it happened “outside the scope of (Potter’s) employment.” Green says Potter has requested personal leave from work.

Potter began working for Hickenlooper in 2013.
