Man in critical condition after being hit by truck

An unidentified 37-year-old man is in the intensive care unit of a local hospital after being hit by a pickup truck Saturday afternoon.

Colorado Springs police said the incident happened just before 2 p.m. at the end of the southbound entrance ramp of Interstate 25 from Cimarron Street.

Police said the man tried to walk across the highway from east to west when he was hit by a truck driven by a 35-year-old man.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, police said.

The driver was not cited but police said the victim could be cited for walking on the highway.

The accident slowed traffic for more than an hour around the interchange at I-25 and Cimarron Street.
