Women brew beer for International Women’s Day

People might think it’s a man’s job, but on Sunday hundreds of ladies across the world brewed beer for International Women’s Day.

Over 100 breweries around the world took part in the effort to create Unite Red Ale.

Beer professionals from all over southern Colorado put on their pink boots and came together to create a sour red ale.

“It’s great seeing everyone else make the same beer on the same day. It’s really encouraging to further your career in the beer industry, because obviously we’re outnumbered by men, it’s a completely different scenario with men,” said Aly Hartwig, a brewer with Pikes Peak Brewing Company in Monument.

A portion of the proceeds from the beer made on Sunday will benefit the Pink Boots Society, a nonprofit that helps women further their brewing careers through scholarships and programs.

Unite Red Ale will be released during Colorado Craft Beer Week, at Pikes Peak Brewing and Brewer’s Republic on March 22, and Bristol on March 29.
