Girl Scouts donate cookie proceeds for cerebral palsy awareness

March is cerebral palsy awareness month and two local Girl Scouts are doing their part to make a difference.

Anna Stanwood, 9, and her younger sister, April Stanwood, have already sold more than 400 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. They are using the cookie proceeds for a good cause.

“We’re going to be donating it all,” Anna said. “Our brother has cerebral palsy and it’s kind of hard, so we want to donate to him and everyone else who has cerebral palsy.”

Last year, Anna donated her cookie money to the Wounded Warrior Project. She told her mom she hopes to raise even more money this year.

“She sees her older brother has gone through a lot of trials and tribulations in his life,” Anna’s mom Jessica Stanwood said. “Her and her sister have really big hearts.”

Jessica said she’s proud her daughters are learning what it means to be a Girl Scout and a caring sister.

“They are inspiring,” she said. “I’m a really happy mom today.”
