UPDATE: Evacuations ordered, man arrested after 13 explosive devices found in Pueblo West home

The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office says nine homes were evacuated after explosives were found inside a home in Pueblo West Wednesday (2/18/15).

The Sheriff’s Office says the devices were found when an eviction notice was being served at a home in the 400 block of Peppertree Way.

Several devices, including one similar to a Molotov cocktail, were found by the movers shortly after the eviction service began at 8:30 a.m.

Deputies confirmed the devices were potentially dangerous and went door to door evacuating homes. A total of nine homes were evacuated for two hours.

The man who lived in the home, Larry Maloney, 39, left to have breakfast with his kids before the explosives were found.

Deputies tracked Maloney to another home where he was questioned.

The Sheriff’s Office says Maloney indicated there were additional explosive devices in the house that had not yet been recovered.

The house was searched again and more devices were found.

The Sheriff’s Office says all 13 devices appeared to be homemade and that the ones that have been tested so far did contain explosive material capable of causing significant damage and injuries.

“I was like, What’s going on? It’s just, it’s just scary,” said neighbor Rosie Mena.

Angel “T” Acar has been Maloney’s neighbor for seven years. He said the family has been going through a rough time.

“They have been going through some stress, it probably wasn’t unexpected, we knew the house was up for foreclosure,” said Acar.

Acar was not concerned or surprised by the movers’ discovery.

“You kind of have to understand who Larry is, he likes to tinker and stuff. I wouldn’t be really scared of anything he put together unless it was a car,” said Acar. “You never know what a guy like Larry is going to have in his basement.”

Maloney was arrested and faces charges for child abuse, reckless endangerment and several counts of possession/use of an explosive device.

The ATF is also involved in the investigation. Sheriff Kirk Taylor says additional federal charges are likely.
