Travyon Martin’s mother speaks at Colorado State

The mother of Trayvon Martin is visiting Colorado for an appearance tied to Black History Month.

Sybrina Fulton is scheduled to speak 7 p.m. Thursday at Colorado State University. The university says she will talk about violence toward children, the need to build safer communities, civil rights and empowering the nation’s youth.

Tickets are free for CSU students and staffers and $5 for the public.

On Wednesday, Fulton spoke to about 800 people at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, urging them to respect their differences.

Her appearances come three years after her 17-year-old son was killed by a neighborhood watch volunteer in Florida, focusing attention on violence against young black men and that state’s stand-your-ground law.
