Colorado publishes review of marijuana health research

Colorado has put together a sweeping report about marijuana’s health effects – everything from pot’s effect on drivers to the drug’s effects on asthma, cancer rates and birth defects.

The 188-page report made public Monday doesn’t include new research on marijuana. Instead, it’s a review of all the research on marijuana’s health effects.

The report highlights include the fact that risk of a motor vehicle crash doubles among drivers with recent marijuana use. The report also states that heavy use of marijuana is associated with impaired memory.

The report also lays out areas where there is limited evidence, or where research is lacking. For example, the report found insufficient evidence to say how long after smoking pot a person is impaired.

The survey was compiled by doctors charged with gathering research on marijuana’s health effects.
