Immigrant licenses no longer granted in the Springs

A Colorado Springs DMV office will no longer grant licenses to people who can’t prove legal U.S. residency.

The DMV office on Union Boulevard was one of five statewide that offered services through the Colorado Road and Community Safety Act. The program grants state IDs, permits and licenses to those who can’t prove legal U.S. residency. But starting Monday, those services will only be provided at one of the Denver offices.

The Department of Revenue reduced its services after Republicans in the Joint Budget Committee blocked funding for the program.

The department released the following instructions for those who had appointments scheduled after January 30:

“All existing CO-RCSA SB13-251 appointments scheduled after January 30, 2015 will be rescheduled. Individuals who had a confirmed CO-RCSA SB13-251 appointment at any office between Feb. 2, 2015 and April 22, 2015 should follow the instructions below. They will be required to provide name, date of birth, original appointment time and location and confirmation number.

For individuals with an appointment in February: Call 303-205-2335 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Jan. 27– Feb. 11. Your appointment will be re-scheduled between Feb. 2, 2015 and June 17, 2015. For individuals with an appointment in March: Call 303-205-2335 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Feb. 6 – Feb 18. Your appointment will be re-scheduled between June 18, 2015 and Nov. 23, 2015. For individuals with an appointment in April: Call 303-205-2335 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Feb. 16 – Feb. 27. Your appointment will be re-scheduled between Nov. 24, 2015 and March 17, 2016.”

Those who do not have a scheduled appointment will be able to do so until January 2016.
