CSPD investigating two Saturday shootings

Colorado Springs police spent much of Saturday investigating the city’s second and third shootings of the weekend.

Just before midnight, officers responded to a report of shots fired at the intersection of Chelton Road and Fountain Boulevard, and found a man on the ground. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the man was in the parking lot between a 7Eleven store and an adjacent strip mall to the north. Investigators say a fight broke out in the parking lot, and that all parties involved scattered when several shots were fired.

Numerous police cars were in the area and officers closed a block of Chelton from Fountain north to Landmark Lane. No information about a suspect or motive was available.

Earlier on Saturday, police spent about eight hours at the Bristol Square apartments on Yuma Street near the Palmer Park Boulevard intersection.

Police said a woman who lives there was shot in the leg inside her home, and that she called for help. She was treated for a non-critical injury at a hospital.

A felony arrest warrant has been issued for Daniel Alvarado, 30, police said, adding that his whereabouts and a motive for the shooting are unclear.

Neighbors said they noticed the police activity but didn’t hear gunfire or see anything suspicious.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reported Saturday that the landlord of a man believed to have been shot to death on Northridge Place late Friday night, was arrested. However, police didn’t confirm that.
