Investigation launched after two llamas shot in Fremont County

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office is trying to figure out who shot two llamas, killing one of them.

Deputies were called to the Royal Gorge Gun Club in the 1300 block of Red Canyon Road at 3:30 p.m. on January 4, 2015.

The deputies say that when they arrived, they found a llama on a shooting range with a gunshot wound to the hind quarter. The llama was alive but was unable to walk.

Investigators tracked down the owner of the llama by phone. He said he was at the vet with another llama that had also been shot.

Both llamas were shot on the left hind quarter. One of the llamas died and the sheriff’s office says the other llama is not expected to survive.

The sheriff’s office says it believes the shootings were deliberate and that whoever did it could face animal cruelty charges.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office at 719-784-3411 or Fremont County Crime Stoppers at 719-275-STOP (7867).
