Library named after a soldier killed in Vietnam War open

A Pueblo man who was killed during the Vietnam War is gone, but a library named in his honor shows he will never be forgotten.

The Pueblo City-County Library District opened the doors Saturday to the Patrick Lucero Eastside Library on 7th Street and Monument Avenue.

People in Pueblo were asked in February who they wanted the new library named after — 27 of the 37 nominations chose Lucero.

Bill Lucero is Patrick Lucero’s brother. He said it is proper that a library is named after Patrick Lucero.

“I’m excited, I’m proud, it’s an opportunity for the eastside to have a library that they never had before. It’s a legacy I’m proud to have brother affiliated with,” he said.

Patrick Lucero also has a library named after him in Vietnam.
