Former band coach sentenced after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a child

A former Air Academy band coach was sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years sex offender intensive supervised probation Tuesday (12/9/14).

Court records show that David Hurd pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation of a child on September 16.

On April 14, 2014, KRDO NewsChannel 13 reported that the investigation into Hurd began after a school resource officer at Air Academy received a tip. At that time, investigators alleged that Hurd was having a romantic relationship with a 16-year-old student.

Hurd was arrested in Aurora on April 11.

School District 20 said it fired Hurd in February when it learned about the accusations against him.
