Colorado Gives Day organizers trying to top $20M

Organizers of Colorado’s annual holiday-season charity drive are hoping to set a record Tuesday.

Gov. John Hickenlooper challenged Coloradans to set a new record for generosity on Colorado Gives Day. That’s a 24-hour fundraiser benefiting 1,600 Colorado nonprofits. It started at midnight and runs all day Tuesday.

The day saw more than $20 million in donations last year.

Hickenlooper says online fundraising campaigns like Colorado Gives Day are “the future of philanthropy.”

All 1,600 participating nonprofits are listed on ColoradoGives.org and its app. Potential donors can search for nonprofits by subject or zip code and earmark funds for the charity they choose.
