Woman sought in connection to deadly Pueblo shooting is arrested

A woman who Pueblo Police were searching for in connection to a deadly shooting at Sharky’s bar has been arrested.

Lazette Borrego, 27, turned herself into authorities the night of Dec. 1.

Police said they arrested Gary Brooks, 42, and Ashley Garcia, 23, last week for their involvement in the July 17 shooting.

The day after the shooting occurred police arrested the main suspect, Damen Blake. Investigators say Blake shot and killed Quincey Coats inside of Sharky’s bar and injured a pregnant woman, Nicole Vallejos. Vallejos was taken to the hospital and gave birth to the baby but the infant died shortly after.

According to an arrest warrant for Brooks obtained by KRDO NewsChannel 13, Brooks waited in the car as Blake went inside the bar the night of the shooting. The arrest affidavit states that Brooks was with Blake when Blake hid the gun in an alley after the murder. Police said Brooks was an accessory to first-degree murder.

Police said they had probable cause to arrest Garcia for unlawful purchase of firearm. Garcia is Blake’s girlfriend. An arrest affidavit for Garcia states that she went with Blake to purchase a handgun for him to use. Blake was not allowed to own a firearm because he’s a convicted felon.

Both Brooks and Garcia were booked into the Pueblo County Jail and released on bond.

Police say Borrego texted Blake several hours before the shooting when she was at Sharky’s bar and told Blake “you need to come here” because Borrego had spotted Coats at the bar. Borrego told police that Blake wanted her to contact him when she saw Coats. The arrest affidavit for Borrego states that had “Lazette not called Damen, Damen would not have known Quincey was at the bar.” Borrego faces a felony charge of complicity to commit first-degree murder.

Those who have information on Borrego’s whereabouts can anonymously report a tip to Pueblo Crime Stoppers at 719-542-STOP.
