People wear purple to bring awareness toward domestic violence

It was a sea of purple in Pueblo Saturday as people are bringing awareness toward domestic violence.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and hundreds of people waved signs and chanted about it in a walk dedicated to the cause.

People walked from Mineral Palace Park to the County Courthouse then to the YWCA and back to the park.

An organizer in the walk says this is a good way to let people who are victims of domestic violence know that they are not alone.

“We want to the community to know that you can stand together and not be afraid, that if you do show that this is happening to you, it is happening to others, and even if it’s not happening to others, they are there to support you,” Organizer Amanda Coatney said.

St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center said three in eight people will be a victim of domestic violence in Pueblo County.
