Hundreds camp outside for Chick-fil-A opening in Pueblo

Hundreds of people proved they weren’t too chicken to camp outside in the cold.

They were waiting for Pueblo’s first Chick-fil-A to open Thursday morning.

Mandy Toman set up camp early Wednesday morning hoping to be one of the first in line.

“I figured that a lot of people were going to be here, so I figured the earlier I get here, the better it’s going to be,” she said.

Chick-fil-A rewards the first 100 people inside its new restaurants with coupons for 52 free meals. That’s enough for a chicken sandwich meal every week for a year.

The new location at 1535 W US Highway 50 provides a shorter commute for loyal fans.

“I waited about 10 years for Chick-fil-A to come to Pueblo,” Richard Urioste said.”I used to go to Colorado Springs to get it up there, but now its here.”

Many of the people who waited for their free meals said they can’t wait to come back for more.

“I’m in Pueblo West, so it’s just right here on the highway and I can come here before work and get my breakfast sandwich, and then I can come here for lunch,” Edumenio Armijo said. “It’s kind of nice because I have 52 free lunches now.”
