Great-grandmother comes up short for homecoming queen

The clock has struck midnight for a great-grandmother trying to be homecoming queen.

Rita Wilhelm, 72, was attempting to be the oldest person to win the crown in CSU-Pueblo’s history.

During halftime of the Thunderwolves homecoming game, her name wasn’t called to be the queen.

Even though she lost, she is in good spirits.

“We’ve had a great time and we were rooting for each other so it’s good, it’s real good,” Wilhelm said.

She said, since the homecoming festivities are over, she can now focus on finishing her master’s degree for art education at the university.
