Motorcyclists ride to raise awareness for breast cancer

Hundreds of motorcyclists proved they were tough enough to wear pink Saturday.

The Mountain Shadow Riders hosted its 14 th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Ride in Colorado Springs.

Many of the riders said they have seen how devastating cancer can be.

“I have several friends that have had breast cancer,” Nettie Coleman said. “I’m riding for them.”

Kelly O’Neill dyed his beard pink for the ride. He hopes he can spread the word about early detection.

“Cancer has definitely affected my family,” O’Neill said. “That’s why I take part in this ride every year.”

For many, the ride is a sign of solidarity.

“We need to be here to help each other. Without it, you’ve got nothing,” Sue Love said.

The race raises thousands of dollars that go directly to Susan G. Komem of Southeastern Colorado.

“Whether it’s breast, or anywhere on the body, it’s a disease we all have to work on, and support, and get rid of,” Steve Barrette said.
