Voters will not get a say on recreational marijuana in Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs City Council rejected a plan Tuesday to let voters decide on recreational marijuana in 2015.

The proposal failed in a 6-to-3 vote.

The question, which would have been on the April 2015 ballot, would have given city voters the opportunity to decide whether recreational marijuana sales should be made legal in Colorado Springs. Council previously voted to prohibit the sale of recreational marijuana in the city.

Also Tuesday, council voted to roll back an electric rate increase that was put into place following a fire at the Drake Power plant.

Colorado Springs Utilities asked for the rate increase to cover the cost of buying electricity while the plant was offline.

The rate decrease will take effect on Sept. 12.
