Volunteers sought for Manitou Incline repairs

The City of Colorado Springs said Tuesday it is looking for volunteers to help with the repair work at the top of the Manitou Incline.

The popular hiking trail closed in August for repairs and will be closed for four months.

Karen Palus, director of the city’s Parks Department, said at a media briefing that construction crews have begun their work and they are happy that hikers have been respectful of the closure. No trespassing citations have been issued.

The volunteer projects include closing existing social trails and building a new sustainable trail at the top of the Incline connecting to Barr Trail.

The volunteer dates are Sept. 13, Oct. 11 and Nov. 1 from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Participants must be 12 years or older. Anyone under 18 must have a guardian accompany them. Tools will be provided, but volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves, water, hat, sunscreen and lunch and also be prepared to work the entire day and hike 3 miles up Barr Trail.

Register to volunteer at www.coloradosprings.gov/volunteer.
